Device types
- CPAP: a constant or automatically regulated pressure keeps the airways open – the standard for obstructive sleep apnoea. CPAP devices →
- Bilevel / BiPAP: two pressure levels for inhalation and exhalation, e.g. when a high pressure is needed.
- ASV: adaptive servo-ventilation adjusts support breath by breath – used only after medical assessment.
- Ventilators: for home ventilation with alarm functions and batteries. Only for trained users or after instruction.
CPAP or BiPAP – what is the difference?
A CPAP device produces a constant pressure throughout the breathing cycle. With auto-CPAP the device adjusts this pressure within a range set by your doctor. A BiPAP or bilevel device works with two separate pressure levels: a higher pressure for inhalation (IPAP) and a lower one for exhalation (EPAP). The difference between them is called pressure support.
| CPAP / auto-CPAP | BiPAP / bilevel | ASV | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pressure levels | one – fixed or automatically regulated | two (IPAP and EPAP) | variable, adjusted breath by breath |

CPAP uses one pressure level, BiPAP two separate levels for inhalation and exhalation.
Do you offer technical service for ventilators?
We technically check CPAP and BiPAP devices – see our service page.
What do S, ST and VAuto mean on the AirCurve 10?
S switches with your breathing, ST adds a backup rate, VAuto adjusts the pressures automatically within set limits.
We do not replace medical advice. Only change therapy pressure and settings as prescribed by your doctor.
